Board hires new elementary principal
by Nathan oster

Big Horn County School District No. 3 has a new elementary principal. Brenda Jinks, currently the principal of Morrill (Neb.) Elementary School, was the school board’s choice to replace Coley Shadrick, who resigned last month to accept an elementary principal position in the Green River school district. Supt. Martha Young said board members were unanimous in their support for Jinks, but the vote to hire her was not unanimous. Trustee Ginny Core wanted the board to first consider her hiring (which she supported) and then her salary (which she wanted to discuss) in separate motions. Trustee Mike Meredith did not rescind his motion and the vote proceeded. Chairman Dale Nuttall joined Core in the dissent, saying he, too, wanted the hiring to be separated from the salary discussion. As a result of five favorable votes, Jinks will come on board at the same salary that was budgeted for Shadrick. Young said “10 or 11” candidates applied for the post. The top five were interviewed. In other personnel moves on Monday night, the board accepted the resignation of District Coordinator Lisa Shadrick (who like her husband landed a school job in Green River) and hired three paraprofessionals: Robert Campos, Jane Sanderson and Rachel Olsen. The board also voted to re-open the application period for its district coordinator position.
